Red scorpionfish

The red scorpionfish is one of the masters of Mediterranean camouflage. With its venomous spines and bright burgundy coloration, it spends hours motionless on rocky bottoms and gorgonians, waiting for its prey. Despite its intimidating appearance, it never attacks — it is only by stepping on it that one risks being stung. In the Mediterranean, DUNE systematically includes it in its species briefings before dives in Marseille and Port-Cros, where it is among the most photographed encounters.
