The USAT Liberty is the most accessible wreck in Indonesia and one of the most beautiful in the world. Perched on the side of a volcano, it descends from 3 to 30 meters in the waters of Tulamben in Bali. More than 400 species of fish and exceptional marine vegetation populate this American wreck from World War II. Night diving there is particularly magical. Its shallow depth, combined with the absence of current, makes it an ideal site for beginners and underwater photographers seeking stunning shots.
The USAT Liberty was an American cargo ship from World War II, torpedoed by a Japanese submarine in January 1942 while carrying military equipment. Towed to Bali for repair, it was eventually abandoned on the beach at Tulamben. In 1963, the eruption of Mount Agung caused the wreck to slide into the water. Since then, the sea has colonized this ship with exceptional biodiversity. Today, divers from around the world come to Tulamben specifically to dive on this legendary wreck.
