The SS Thistlegorm is undoubtedly the most famous wreck in the Red Sea and one of the most emblematic in the world. A British cargo ship sunk during World War II, it rests at 16 to 32 meters depth. Its hold overflows with military vehicles, motorcycles, trucks and war materiel, forming a veritable underwater museum. Divers from around the world come to admire this gripping testimony to history. The exceptional visibility of the Red Sea makes it an exceptional diving site for all levels.
The SS Thistlegorm was a British merchant navy cargo ship built in 1940. It was transporting war materiel to Allied troops in North Africa. On October 6, 1941, it was sunk by German bombers while awaiting passage through the Suez Canal. Rediscovered in the 1950s by Commander Cousteau, it is today ranked among the ten best diving wrecks in the world. Its tragic history and intact contents make it an exceptional historical and underwater site.
