The Maldives Victory is the most famous wreck in the Maldives, resting in the lagoon of the Male atoll. This 80-meter cargo ship offers a spectacular dive with its structure covered in colorful corals and impressive marine fauna. The bow is located at only 5 meters depth, accessible by snorkeling, while the stern descends to 35 meters. Reef sharks and stingrays are regular visitors. It is the most easily accessible dive site from Male, ideal for a first contact with wrecks.
The MV Maldives Victory was a cargo ship built in 1974, which ran aground on the head of the Hulhulé reef on February 13, 1981 in poor visibility conditions. The ship was carrying general cargo and its crew was rescued without loss of life. Quickly, the wreck became too dangerous to recover and was abandoned in place. In a few decades, the sea transformed this carcass into an artificial reef of exceptional richness, becoming one of the essential diving sites in the Maldives.
