The Dunraven is a fascinating Victorian wreck resting in the turquoise waters of Sharm el-Sheikh. Accessible from 8 meters depth, this 19th-century British steam ship is covered with incredible marine life. Hard and soft corals adorn its metal structure, hosting scorpionfish, moray eels, lionfish and schools of tropical fish. Its shallow depth makes it an ideal site for both beginner and experienced divers. Natural light penetrating the holds creates spectacular light displays.
The Dunraven was a British steam cargo built in 1873. In 1876, during a voyage between Bombay and Newcastle carrying cotton and precious wood, it ran aground on the Sha'ab Mahmoud reef near Sharm el-Sheikh. The exact circumstances of the shipwreck remain mysterious, but the ship was abandoned quickly. For more than a century, the sea gradually took over the wreck, transforming this maritime tragedy into a jewel of exceptional biodiversity.
