- Humpback Whales (Megaptera novaeangliae): The Mozambique Channel serves as a critical calving and nursing ground. Between July and September, whale song is audible underwater throughout the region.
- Dugongs (Dugong dugon): Madagascar shelters one of the Indian Ocean's most significant remaining dugong populations. These rare sea cows graze seagrass beds around Nosy Be far more regularly than in most Indo-Pacific locations.
