Loggerhead Turtle

The loggerhead turtle is one of the 7 species of sea turtles and is the most endangered. Its pointed beak, similar to that of a hawk, allows it to extract its favorite sponges from coral crevices. Its shell, with golden mottled hues, was once exploited for the manufacture of tortoiseshell objects, making it a prime victim of illegal trade. Today strictly protected, it can be found in the coral reefs of the Maldives, Raja Ampat, and Madagascar - an encounter that DUNE treats with the utmost respect.
